Most patio furniture that looks finished in Tucson is not. The frame is fine. The slings have gone baggy, the vinyl straps have turned brittle, or the finish has gone chalky, and all three are repairs that cost a fraction of a new set. Typical prices: slings $85 to $160 per piece, vinyl straps $80 to $145 per piece, powder coating $75 to $190 per piece plus stripping. Tell us what you have and we will tell you which repair it needs, and what it costs, before anyone touches a bolt.
We repair aluminum patio and pool furniture across Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana, the Catalina Foothills, Green Valley, Sahuarita and SaddleBrooke. Every number on this site is a typical range, built from published price lists of patio furniture repair shops and national cost guides, and laid out in full on the pricing page.
What the Tucson sun does to patio furniture
Tucson gets about 85 percent of its possible sunshine, which puts it among the sunniest cities in the country by NOAA’s own records. On top of that, the National Weather Service puts the normal at 68 days a year at 100 degrees or hotter, and 2024 set the record with 112. The first 100-degree day of 2026 came on March 19, the earliest on record.
That combination is hard on exactly the parts of a chair that are not metal:
- Vinyl straps lose the plasticizers that keep them flexible. UV and heat drive that loss, so the straps stiffen, go brittle and finally crack or snap when someone sits down.
- Sling fabric is a woven polyester core coated in PVC. Years of sun break down the coating and the fabric relaxes, so the seat sags until the sitter feels the crossbar.
- Powder coat on the frame slowly chalks as sunlight breaks down the resin that holds the pigment. Dark colors show it first, as a dull white haze that comes off on your hand.
None of that means the aluminum underneath is failing. On a good frame it usually is not. That is the whole case for repair over replacement.
What we repair
| Service | Typical price | Where the work happens |
|---|---|---|
| Sling replacement | $85-$160 per piece | Shop: frames picked up and returned |
| Vinyl strap restrapping | $80-$145 per piece | Often on your patio |
| Powder coating and refinishing | $75-$190 per piece + stripping | Shop |
| Frame and weld repair | $50-$150 per repair | Shop |
| Swivel and rocker repair | $75-$160 per chair | Often on your patio |
| Glides and feet | $1-$2 per glide in parts | On site, or with other work |
| Replacement cushions | From about $40 per cushion | Made to measure |
Cross-weave and basket-weave strap patterns run about 25 to 45 percent more than straight runs because every strap is woven through its neighbours. Stripping before powder coat is typically $25 to $100 a chair and more for a table.
How a job runs
- Tell us what you have. A photo of each piece, front and side, plus the brand if you know it, gets most quotes started. A label or a sticker under the seat helps.
- We quote per piece. You get a line for each chair, chaise, ottoman or table, with the fabric or strap choice and any frame repair called out separately.
- Shop work or patio work. Strap jobs can often be done where the furniture sits. Slings need the rails pulled and the fabric slid in under tension, and powder coat needs stripping, coating and baking, so those frames come to the shop and come back finished.
- Frame first. Before new fabric goes on we check welds, rail bolts, glides and the finish. A loose bolt or a cracked weld gets fixed first, and you approve that line before we do it.
- You check it on the patio. Sit in every chair before we leave.
Slings, straps or lace: which one do you have?
People mix these up on the phone all the time, and it changes the price:
- Slings are one piece of mesh fabric per seat (or two, a seat and a back) held in channels on each side of the frame. If the seat is a single panel of fabric, it is a sling. See sling replacement.
- Vinyl straps are flat bands wrapped around the frame and riveted or clipped. If you can count individual bands, they are straps. See vinyl strap restrapping.
- Vinyl lace is a narrow vinyl cord (5/8 inch is a common supply size) woven through the frame in a pattern, the look of mid-century designs like Brown Jordan’s diagonally laced Tamiami. Lace is quoted after we see the pattern, because the labor depends entirely on the weave.
Four brands worth repairing
A good aluminum frame routinely outlives several sets of fabric; the makers themselves warrant their frames for far longer than their straps. We work on all of them and are a dealer or warranty provider for none. Brand pages cover what fails first on each:
- Winston: an Alabama maker known for sling seating.
- Tropitone: outdoor furniture since 1954, now part of Brown Jordan International.
- Brown Jordan: the Pasadena original from 1945, famous for straps and lace.
- Homecrest: the Minnesota maker whose swivel rocker mechanism was patented in 1956.
If your furniture is still inside the maker’s warranty, check with the retailer or maker before paying anyone. Strap and finish warranties are much shorter than frame warranties, and most exclude sunscreen damage and normal fading.
When repair is not worth it
We would rather tell you no than sell a sling for a frame that will not last. Repair is usually not worth it when:
- the frame is a light, thin-wall set that cost less new than the slings would cost now;
- the tube has corroded through or several welds have cracked;
- the piece is bent out of square so a new sling would never sit flat.
In those cases we will say so on the quote. Our refinish or replace calculator walks through the same math.
Seasons in Tucson
Winter is patio season here. NWS normals put January’s low around 41 degrees and June’s high above 101, so the patio is most comfortable from fall through spring. That is also when the most furniture comes in for repair, so it pays to call before the first cool weekend if you want the set back for guests. The summer monsoon, officially June 15 to September 30, brings microburst winds that can pick up a light chair and throw it into the pool or against a wall, and a bent leg or a cracked weld is often what that leaves behind.
Start with the symptom
If you are not sure what you need, the problems pages start with what you can see: a sagging or split sling, brittle straps that snap, a chalky faded finish, a wobbly chair or a squeaking swivel rocker. Each one has a check you can do first and the typical price.
